Filming has begun on “Killing a Bear”, the new original Movistar Plus+ series produced with ARTE France and in collaboration with Kubik Films (STUDIO TF1).

Created by brothers Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo, filming will take place in locations such as the Aran Valley, the Catalan Pyrenees, Madrid and Segovia.

Inspired by real events, “Killing a Bear” begins with the mysterious death of the bear Cachou in the Aran Valley during the pandemic lockdown. This event triggers an unprecedented judicial investigation in Spain, in which the animal’s death is treated as a murder. This brings to light deep tensions between the inhabitants of the valley, environmentalism and European policies, reflecting a conflict between tradition and modernity that is highly relevant today.

Sinopsis
The death of the bear Cachou in the Aran Valley triggers a criminal investigation unprecedented in the case of an animal’s death. The suspects are the inhabitants of the Valley, which will become the scene of a clash between the global and the ancestral, where only a few will fight to prevent the conflict from erupting with irreparable consequences.

In the words of the creators

Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo: “The story of Cachou the bear is a multi-layered case. What seemed like a surreal event became a complex portrait of the clash between the local and the global, tradition and the present. It has been a real treat to work with the actors and actresses who are part of this project, as well as with the usual Kubik Films team, who motivate us to take on the challenge that this series represents. Killing a Bear is a story that is as unexpected as it is real. Each point of view brings us closer to a conflict that speaks of identity, the environment and the latent violence in coexistence. We are delighted to be working with Movistar Plus+ again; we feel that this project is tailor-made for a platform that is committed to ambitious and unique series such as this one.”

The keys

  • The series is also committed to sustainable filming in an environment as delicate as the Pyrenees.

#MatarAUnOso

With the aim of continuing to move towards more sustainable filming, Movistar Plus+ and Kubik Films have implemented a Sustainability Plan that reduces the environmental impact of the series in the Pyrenees area and will include, after post-production, the calculation and verification of its carbon footprint.
