La zona is a thriller but we use the police and suspense plot as a chest full of themes that we are interested in developing. Thus, The Zone is also a metaphor for the crisis. If in Crematorio we talked about the mechanics of corruption at the origin of the crisis, here we wanted to portray the consequences of it. In fact, a nuclear accident has, in addition to the direct human tragedy, an enormous economic impact with political and social consequences very similar to those that have occurred in recent years. The documentation on Fukushima taught us that, and when we went beyond that reality, we turned to elements specific to our country. We wanted the series to be very local, so that we could recognize ourselves as a society in everyday details. Plots of rehoused people, people who lose their homes very close to the evictions due to mortgage defaults, but also the Yak 42 accident, the victims of the Valencia subway and in general all the responsibilities related to these dramas. As a general theme we wanted to review who are those who pay the bill for the crisis and who are those who at the same time benefit from it.
